CAREERS DETAILS

Software Engineer

Work on exciting projects with cutting-edge technology. Contribute to software development and architecture.

SEC / 01 Overview

Job Description

The Software Engineer builds the systems our coordinators, clearance team and customers actually work in — tracking, rating, document handling and the integrations that connect carriers, customs brokers and warehouse systems. This is a contract engagement based in Chicago, working close to operations rather than at a distance from them.

Job responsibilities

  • Build and maintain backend services for tracking, rating and documents.
  • Integrate carrier, customs broker and warehouse systems, legacy EDI included.
  • Model freight data so milestones, rates and documents stay consistent.
  • Design APIs that tolerate third-party systems behaving badly.
  • Keep production reliable, observable and safe to deploy on a busy day.
  • Migrate legacy integrations without interrupting live shipments.
  • Record architecture decisions and the reasoning behind them.
  • Hand over documented, maintainable code at the end of the engagement.

Logistics software fails in unglamorous ways — a missing milestone, a duplicated document, a rate that quietly went stale. The value of this role is in noticing those failure modes before a customer does.

Qualification

  • 4+ years building production backend services.
  • Strong SQL and relational data modelling; event-driven experience welcome.
  • Practical API design skills and patience for third-party integrations that misbehave.
  • Comfortable with cloud infrastructure, CI and observability tooling.
  • Bonus: exposure to EDI, freight rating, or customs data formats.

Duties

  • Deliver against an agreed contract scope with regular, reviewable increments.
  • Keep production reliable and on-call handovers clean.
  • Migrate legacy integrations without interrupting live shipments.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and record the reasoning.
  • Hand over documented, maintainable code at the end of the engagement.

Conclusion

Freight is a domain where correctness has a shipping cost attached. If you like problems where the feedback loop is measured in containers rather than clicks, you will enjoy this one.
